Ben's Room

Our first finished room!
When we looked at the house, we saw there were enough bedrooms for both boys to have their own-  When we told this to the boys, we wanted them to pick out their own rooms-  I know this could have been lots of trouble if they both picked the same room... but they didn't!  Ben wanted, as he called it "the yellow room."  His reasons were
1- it has 2 windows
2- it already has a bed in it (we tried to explain to him that the bed wouldn't be in there but it didn't matter)
3- when you look out the back window you can see the football field

ok... #3 is a big deal... I mean a REALLY BIG DEAL!  After we moved in and set up his room, shortly after was the first night game for the ZM Cougars.  When the lights go on at the football field, Ben's room fills with light...and.... he can see the football field from his bed.... who WOULDN'T want to sleep there?!  On warm nights we would open his window a bit and then he also gets to listen to the game.

So- here is the "before" pick- like I said before- this picture is what we saw when we looked at the house-

And then... the transformation
Because the boys picked out their room, we really wanted to make their rooms their own-  so, we did what any completely crazy parent would do and told them they could paint their room any color they wanted.... At first, I thought- this color choice will be within reason-  I mean, we wouldn't want to have crazy colored rooms now.  Before I could even put these stipulations in place Ben informed me that he wanted a "Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougar Room."  For those of you who don't know the ZM Cougars-  their colors are Navy Blue and Silver.  Knowing that we will be in this home for quite a while- and knowing Ben's love of sports- we want to instill a sense of "team spirit"...so why not start with a little paint!?  Navy Blue and Silver...  Let's get a little background on Kris.... growing up-  I had the thought that "eggshell" was the color of the room- not the paint type-  my parents enjoyed putting things on the wall with color vs painting the entire wall. So- when I was standing in front of the paint colors and picked up colors that were Navy Blue- I thought I was going nuts-  The most color that is added to our paint cans is by the drop... I mean by 1-2 drops of color!  So when I saw them DUMP blacks and reds and blues into the gallon of paint...all I could do was nervously giggle.

Now onto the Silver-  how do you get a room to look decent with a silver wall-  accent?  This was my first thought-  but then I found this...
Silver Lining.... awesome!  I added this to the light gray we picked out first and we got a perfect metallic looking wall!!!

After painting we picked out a set of Navy curtains (with blackout features!)  and Ben's quilt that he got for his birthday was the perfect addition!
Enjoy!  (we are!)

To help add the finishing touches... Aunt Carrie gave Ben a few decals to put around his room!
